An extremely rare linen version — that's right, this is Stoffgeld, printed on linen fabric — of the 1/2 Gold Mark smiling baby Notgeld. The note was actually denominated in US Dollars, 5/42 of one US dollar, to be exact, which was backed by gold. The standardized Gold Mark (1 US Dollar was equal to 4.20 Gold Marks) was more of a marketing term, to avoid admitting that they had to begin using the gold-backed US Dollar as the de facto currency. During the very final months of Germany's hyperinflation of 1923, this was a way to have some kind of stable currency, as the paper mark had lost nearly all of its value.
Condition: AU/UNC, this appears to be a slight error note as well
